Introduction to Retail Gift Aid
A one day introduction to charity retail gift aid covering charity shops, online and recycling.
Many charity shops selling donated goods use the HMRC approved ‘Retail Gift Aid Scheme’ (or ‘RGAS’) to claim Gift Aid on the proceeds from sales of donated goods. In October 2015 HMRC updated its RGAS guidance. This followed concerns that it was not always implemented correctly. As part of that directive “All shop staff involved in RGAS must undergo training and charities must undertake regular audits on a periodic or sample basis, as appropriate, to ensure the processes are being followed correctly.”
Rules for this scheme are regularly reviewed by HMRC and your knowledge needs to remain up to date.
Retail Gift Aid can seem very cumbersome with far too many rules, putting off charity shop volunteers and retail managers, for charities who do operate retail Gift Aid there is always the concern the rules are being broken.
Our one day workshop covers:
· Retail Gift Aid essentials: Rules and latest updates
· Selecting the best Gift Aid method for your organisation
· How to make your literature work for you
· Gift Aid and the RAGS (recycling) scheme
· Ebay and Gift Aid
· How to engage volunteers
· The rules on notifying the donor
· How to pass an HMRC RGA Audit
Delegates will be asked to complete a pre-workshop questionnaire.
All delegates will be provided with handouts and a short scenario based set of questions to complete outside of the formal training. A certificate of attendance will be issued to delegates who actively participate in the workshop and respond to the short scenario questions. The Certificate can be used as part of your audit to evidence training.
Who should attend: Anyone at Head Office who work with their Charity shops, Retail Managers and volunteers
Date: Friday 29th March 2019 in Exeter

Retail Gift Aid for Charity shops.
Two Day Workshop
We also offer a two-day Retail Gift Aid Workshop, normally on-site at your organisation with fundraisers, charity shop managers and key volunteers and finance managers.
This bespoke workshop will help you maximise Gift Aid income from charity shops and retail whilst ensuring that you fully understand all the regulations and Gift Aid rules. RGA relies heavily on people at the frontline, most often volunteers, to take on and understand quite complex rules. Our workshop will help you to share the knowledge, train your teams, develop guides and design gift aid marketing material, giving volunteers the support they need to develop a lucrative income stream.
